Considering a Transfer?

Transferring colleges as a student-athlete can be a big decision, influenced by many factors. Here are some common reasons why athletes choose to transfer:

  • Graduate Transfer
  • New Coaching Staff at Your School
  • Desire for a Different Culture
  • Academic Reasons
  • Seeking More Playtime or a Different Role
  • Changing the Level of Play

The Transfer Portal Process

Transferring in college differs significantly from the recruitment process you experienced as a youth player. The timeline is much faster, and the expectations are different. College coaches won’t be on the sidelines watching you play multiple games, and you won’t have the chance to attend ID Camps and get to know the staff.

Transfer Windows:

  • Fall Window:
  • Men’s Soccer: November 20th – December 19th
  • Women’s Soccer: November 13th – December 12th
  • Spring Window:
  • Men’s & Women’s Soccer: May 1st – May 15th

Exceptions

  • A 30-day transfer window is available for Division I student-athletes immediately following their coach being fired or taking another job.
  • Division I athletes who are not receiving an athletic scholarship or were not recruited to a non-scholarship program (e.g., Ivy Leagues) can enter the transfer portal at any time.
